School Council

Dear da Vinci parents, new and returning,

On behalf of the School Council we would like to welcome you to this school year! Our first Council meeting this year will take place on Thursday, October 3rd at 7:00 pm, immediately following Curriculum Night. It will be a short meeting to elect this year’s executive.

The School Council is an excellent way for us to be involved in the school as parents. All parents of children who attend da Vinci are automatically members of the Council, as well as the school’s Principal, Vice-Principal and teachers. In addition we have an executive that facilitates the work of the Council. The executive is made up of two co-chairs, a secretary, a treasurer, and and two to three members at large. The current executive will be in effect until a new executive is elected.

The role of the Co-Chairs is to arrange meetings, prepare agendas, facilitate meetings, ensure that minutes of meetings are recorded and maintained, facilitate resolution of conflict, and communicate with the Principal on behalf of the Council*. The role of the secretary is to take notes during the meetings to capture any decisions that are made and information that is shared. The treasurer writes cheques for Council expenses, maintains the books, and provides regular reports to Council on how we are doing financially. Members at large contribute to the discussions on the executive and support the executive in carrying out its work. Being a member at large is an excellent way to learn about the Council and how it works.

If you are interested in being on the School Council Executive this year, please let Beth Mills, the Principal know via email Beth.Mills@tdsb.on.ca with the subject line Interested in da Vinci School Council Executive and try to come to the meeting on October 3rd.

Effectively and timely communication will be important ingredients in making this year a success. The executive would like to be able to communicate with parents by email to send information about upcoming events, distribute meeting agendas and minutes. In order to be included on the school-wide email list, please fill out the attached form and return it to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. This list will only be used for one-way communication between the executive and you.
