Welcome back – A message from Principal Beth Mills

Dear da Vinci families,

Robin and I are looking forward to this new school year. We both had lovely summers with family and friends and are refreshed and ready for the busy year ahead.

Welcome to new staff members:

• Mr Peyton Leung is joining our staff in the afternoons. He will be teaching music and working with Jolan Canrinus on our joint environmental science afteroons.

• Ms Bernadette Pugh is our Full Day Kindergarten Early Childhood Educator. We are fortunate to benefit from her rich experience working with young children at George Brown College.

Our focus at da Vinci continues to be on effective classroom learning that engages head, hands and heart – thinking, doing and feeling. As a school community, our aim is to continue to build this innovative school together in a respectful and responsive way.

Robin and I look forward to working with you and your children. We all – faculty, administration and parents – have different realms of roles and responsibilities. Through developing strong partnerships with you, we can all bring greater purpose and meaning to learning by integrating school and family life. However, successful parent involvement requires ongoing parent education. We encourage you to attend the Waldorf parent talks, school festivals and teacher conferences. These all focus on child development as well as specific aspects of our educational program. As well, we encourage you to get involved with our School Council so your ideas and energy are part of our growth.

Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or concerns.

Beth Mills, Robin Holmes-Smith
