Oak Class students listened to a book about the life story of the extraordinary dancer and singer, Josephine Baker. She gained fame in New York City as a comic chorus girl during the Harlem Renaissance and then went on to Paris to become a star. Students listened to her perform her famous song, J’ai Deux Amours (I have 2 loves): Manhattan and Paris! Oak Class students drew Josephine in all her glory and wrote short phrases in French describing her effervescence.
Oak Class students also participated in three Swing Dance workshops where they learned the Charleston, Lindy Hop and the Shim Sham. Afterwards they wrote and illustrated some of their favourite moves.
