Winter: Get Involved

There are always many ways to get involved:

Breakfast Club Drop-in
Now there are three days to choose from if you want to drop in to the Breakfast Club! Come on in between 9-11am, room 309, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, pop in for a minute or stay for two hours!

Volunteer List
Calling all parents! Parent Council is compiling a school-wide volunteer list for teachers to use while planning their school year. There will soon be an e-mail survey sent out asking parents about their special skills and availability.

Pizza Days
Volunteers are needed from 11:15 to 11:45am on Tuesday Pizza Days.

Parent Experiences
We were thinking it might be nice to include parental updates.  Many of you are spending time in the classrooms with your children and their peers and seeing first hand what that feels like and enjoying experiences like handwork and the Sumac Festival etc.  You have first hand knowledge that is invaluable to others and also fodder for a nice snapshot of an hour in the classroom. If you are so inclined please take a moment and write about your experience in the classroom.  You can forward them to me and I’ll send them over to Erik Petersen.

Winter Solstice Fair
The Winter Fair is scheduled for Tuesday, 15 December. We are looking for volunteers to help get ready for the Winter Fair and there are LOTS of different ways you can help. Pick the one that suits you best! You can drop in 9-11 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and make felted acorns, pine cone gnomes (materials provided) or any small craft of your choice for the Children’s Fairy Market table. You can put felted acorns and acorn caps together, or you can make 3D snowflakes and stars for the decoration of the winter fair. We currently need volunteers to drill holes on acorn caps, to make felted acorns, and put strings on acorn caps.

If you can’t make it to the breakfast club, you can have take-home crafts kits. If you are interested in any of these tasks, please contact Crystal or Anne . They will get the take-home crafts kits ready for you.For the volunteering work on the day of the winter fair, an electronic sign-up sheet will be sent out in the beginning of December.

Lantern Walk & Coat Drive
The Lantern Walk will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, 10 November. We need volunteers for the Lantern Walk. You are welcome to bring nut-free baked goods to have with the hot chocolate after the walk. We will run a food drive for Scott Mission. Please donate non-perishable food items to help fight hunger.

This year, in addition to the food drive at our Lantern Walk, da Vinci will be holding a coat drive for the month of November. Coats, boots and other warm clothing can be dropped off at the Da Vinci office all month long. Your generous donations will go to our neighbours at the Scott Mission.

Council Meeting
There will be no parent council meeting in November. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
