Session One: May 22 at 7:30 pm (Remote)
We are happy to share that we are the proud recipients of a TDSB School Council Innovation Grant! Partnering with one of our fellow caregivers, Sarah Illiatovitch-Goldman, this grant allows us to provide parents/caregivers training sessions, workshops, and ongoing affinity groups. We aim to empower our community to foster an inclusive, open and supportive environment for our children within the home and school community. The program will help us to understand the signs of Trauma and Resilience in our children as may be related to socio-economic, racial, gender, religious, cultural and other personal identities.
Sarah (Maple class parent) is an artist, activist, and educator specializing in Trauma-informed and Resilience practices. Sarah holds certification as a Trauma and Resilience Practitioner and Trainer in educational and clinical fields from the internationally acclaimed Starr-Commonwealth.
We are providing a remote session on May 22nd at 7:30 pm with a second scheduled for June. Additional online group sessions in June will also be provided. All of this at NO cost to you!
Please join us as we work together and continue to create a sense of belonging within the school environment by acknowledging and valuing parents/caregivers’ identities and assets, as well as ensuring their representation and reflection in all spaces and activities. We are committed to respecting the role of all parents/caregivers in students’ educational experiences and providing spaces for the voices of our parents/caregivers community to address issues of equity, anti-oppression, and human rights.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mor, Matanya and/or Urvi for more information.
Testimonials from similar workshops with Sarah:
“The work was impactful. It showed me how to disrupt the current institutional structure that is so harmful for most people but without harming myself or others in the process”
“There was an ‘aha’ that trauma informed approach isn’t about targeting/dissecting any individual’s trauma, but recognizing we all carry some (and some of us carry a lot), the impacts that has, and how to use our knowledge to do the self work and collective work to disrupt the harm and create conditions for genuine inclusion and individual and collective health”
“[TRUE] provided a positive way to put the human at the centre along with the work”
“I haven’t been as excited about something I just learned for a long time”
